Upcycling with a Few New Accessories Creates New and Unique, Inspiring Pieces of Furniture

Decorators get paid big bucks for their creative ideas. With a little inspiration, you can invent some imaginative ideas on your own by looking at items with an eye towards upcycling. Before you can do that, though, you need to know what upcycling is. It's the process of taking an unwanted item, and instead of recycling and getting rid of it, you then repurpose it and use it in your home in a different and unique way.

Let's say that you decide you want a new door on your bedroom. You shop and search, finally finding a new door you absolutely love. There is nothing really wrong with the old door, so instead of throwing it out on the curb for trash day, you should upcycle it. You can sand it down, repaint or stain it and attach metal furniture legs to it. The type of table legs you attach depends on the style you want and where the table will ultimately go. That is what you have done by repainting and adding table legs; you have made a new table. That table can go outside on the patio for cookouts and nights out in the backyard with friends and family gathering around it. If you want something a little sturdier for the outdoors, you could use iron table legs.

If you have two doors to upcycle, you could cut the door in half widthwise, and with the addition of legs and casters, you could create stools that easily slide under the table for stylish and functional outdoor seating. Old pieces of wood from a demolition can be given new life with adjustable height legs or bases, and made into side tables. They will spark your guest's interest and show a unique sense of style that only you can create in your home.

The chic creativity of using old items for a new purpose will impress your friends with your Eco-responsibility. In no time, you'll be looking at items that you hadn't even considered tossing in the trash and wondering what new and fabulous item you can develop by upcycling them.
